I always like news media that can educate as well as inform. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow explains the technical details of the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant with nerd like enthusiasm. Moreover, she does it without the pretentious, nostalgic authority symbolism of Glenn Beck's chalkboard.
I remember as a student in Florida high schools, teachers used their occupation as a soapbox for their political positions, be they Randian objectivism, flower-child liberalism, military jingoism or veganism. My experience in the Florida education system seems ironic. Back then, my teachers were commentators. Today, the news commentators are teachers. Like teachers, some commentators teach better than others. All the same, the line between political commentators and teachers is transparent from my perspective.
Of course, commentators get paid more and get more in benefits than teachers, all the while belittling the real teachers.
