All in all, it was a great. Massive Attack's cyberpunk, infographic visual display made up for the D's and G's subtlety and darkness. The rock component reminded me of why I started listening to the group. I can easily see how their music influenced my listening to post-metal and dub electronic music.
As a communications media student, I would like to know if any research has been done on audience effects of live electronics-based multimedia performances like Massive's, the NX35 2010 Flaming Lips set and others.
Thievery Corp's performance was more energetic, with their international jazz and reggae influences and emcees that interact more directly with the audience.
Edit: correction from the review: I mistook th singer of "Safe From Harm" as Martina Topley-Bird when the singer was in fact Deborah Miller. My ignorance and bad eyesight are to blame for that. I offer music writer and producer Steve Albini my head on a stick for that.
